The Portuguese overseas expansion left important traces in many parts of the world. Some of the most significant are the fortresses built by the Portuguese to defend their presence abroad. 

The last session of the season is once again devoted to archaeology! The archaeologist Victor Filipe and the archaeologist and anthropologist Anabela Castro will focus on three excavations carried out in Lisbon, highlighting the 15th and 16th century azulejos that were found.

Professor Edward Triplett, from Duke University, will coordinate the workshop "Az3D: Scanning Portugal's Azulejos in their Architectural Context". The workshop, part of the programme ARTis Now, will take place from 29 May to 2 June at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon and the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.

In May the AzLab will travel to Mexico to meet Renata Schneider, a restorer at the National Institute for Anthropology and History.
