COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF THE SAFEGUARDING OF THE PORTUGUESE INFLUENCED TRANSCULTURAL BUILT HERITAGE IN SOUTH ASIA
24 May, 2023 | Lisbon, School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon > room C135.A and via Zoom| 17.00 [Lisbon Time Zone - UTC+1]
Conference by Joaquim Rodrigues dos Santos (ARTIS - Art History Institute, School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon), as part of the "Programem for the promotion of science and scientific training".
Articulating art history, heritage studies and anthropological and sociological aspects, this project aims at analysing, surveying, documenting and contextualising the context of safeguarding the Portuguese-influenced heritage in the East, as well as the way it reverberates on the individuals who live it. Following the post-doctoral research entitled "Safeguarding of the Architectural Heritage with Portuguese Influence in India: Context and Criticism", the territories of South Asia with a context of Portuguese colonial presence were taken as reference for the present scientific project, allowing a wider contextualisation of the various existing issues. This cross-cultural heritage presents a whole set of different complexities that hinder, to a greater or lesser extent, its preservation. The main objectives are the production of innovative knowledge about an underdeveloped area, from a multidisciplinary point of view, where besides artistic studies, the perception of architectural, historical and socio-cultural aspects is also relevant.
