SCIENCE AND CULTURAL HERITAGE PROGRAMME

Applications open until 31 May 2023.

A call is open until 31 May 2023 for the award of 40 research fellowships in the field of Cultural Heritage, promoted by the General Directorate for Cultural Heritage (DGPC) under the FCT Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships (RBI) and the Research Grant Holder Statute (EBI).

ARTIS-IHA is available, as a host institution and in agreement with the entities supervised by DGPC, to receive proposals from candidates interested in developing projects related to the centre's main research areas: Portuguese art history, contemporary art and azulejo studies, among others.

Applicants should start by sending an e-mail with a description of the research they plan to develop, along with a cover letter and a detailed CV, to one of the coordinators of ARTIS' three research groups or of specific ongoing projects (please see the e-mail addresses below). The deadline for this initial contact is 19 May 2023.

The call is part of the Science and Cultural Heritage Programme, approved by the Dispatch no. 1992/2021, of 23 February 2021, and aimed at the promotion of research and development activities (R&D) in Portuguese museums, monuments, palaces and archaeological sites overseen by the DGPC and the General Directorates for Culture. The goal is to develop, widen and deepen the study of cultural heritage, collections and estates, thereby encouraging the intersection of scientific knowledge with the conservation, research, valorization and promotion of cultural goods.

The doctoral fellowships aim to fund research works leading to the award of a doctoral degree in a Portuguese university, in official doctoral programmes focused on the aforementioned scientific fields, with a preference for the development of transdisciplinary research.
