The Royal Collections have always been examples of a refined taste, serving as a reference to wealthy nobles and bourgeois, increasing the business of artistic production. As artisanal workshops become modern commercial firms in an exquisite range of visual and decorative arts, having the privilege of serving a Royal House and achieving 'official supplier' status has become a desired position. Several agents are involved in the procurement process, in particular when it takes place abroad, with diplomats being diligent and effective intermediaries.

The practice of royal collections ends up serving as a model for other official collections (presidential, regional and municipal), which, through different time frames, adopt particular profiles.
