AzLab#82 | THE ARCHEOLOGICAL EXCAVATION OF THE ANCIENT SOMMER WAREHOUSES
February 8th, 2023 | 18h00 [Lisbon Time Zone ? UTC] | National Azulejo Museum and via Zoom [session to be held in Portuguese]
During the construction of a hotel in the former location of the Sommer Warehouses, on Cais de Santarém Street, in Lisbon, the excavations unearthed various elements that offer a unique picture of the city's stratification between the Iron Age and the first half of the 20th century. The archaeological works, carried out during the 2000s and 2010s, led to the identification of a number of remains of great importance for the city's history - among which tile sets from different periods, which will be presented in detail on this AzLab by the archaeologists Nuno Neto and Paulo Rebelo, from Neoépica.
AzLab#82 will be held in a hybrid format: both online and at the National Azulejo Museum. As such, no preregistration is needed for the in-person session at the National Azulejo Museum. However, attendance is limited to the room capacity. Registration is still mandatory for those who wish to attend via Zoom. Once the session is scheduled, each participant will receive a link and a password. Please register on Google forms or by e-mail (redeazulejo@letras.ulisboa.pt). Invited speakers: Paulo Rebelo [Neoépica]
Nuno Neto [Neoépica]
NOTE: this session will be recorded and partially made available on the YouTube channel of the Azulejo Research Network.
