In April, AzLab travels to Belgium, where the researcher Mario Baeck is developing a postdoctoral project on the sources of inspiration and the international trends that have shaped tile production. In this session, Mario Baeck will explore a little-studied topic: the recourse to factory catalogues as unique sources of information for a better understanding of tiled interiors from the 19th and 20th centuries, the prevailing taste and commissions, and the circulation of decorative shapes and motifs in Europe and around the world.
