Leonor Liz Amaral
Integrated researcher at ARTIS, the Art History Institute of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL), Leonor Amaral completed her PhD in Art History in 2022, with a research grant awarded by the FCT. Her PhD was developed as part of the international project African Ivories in the Atlantic World (CH-UL) and led to the publication of different articles on the ivories of the Kingdom of Benin. She holds a master's degree in Art, Heritage and Restoration Theory and a license degree in Art History (FLUL) and has conducted interdisciplinary research on the late Medieval and Renaissance periods, combining historical and artistic studies with material studies. She has focused, moreover, on the Portuguese overseas expansion, and particularly on artistic and cultural crossbreeding and hybridization processes, and has worked in the fields of decorative painting, conservation and restoration. Having collaborated with the educational services of the National Museum of Ancient Art, she now works in the São Roque Antiquarian and Art Gallery, while continuing to study (and publish on) Portuguese and African art from before and after the Portuguese expansion period.
